'Dina Barge' (diameter: 120 x 33.5 x 7.6 m), laden with a cargo of 12 hulls (6500 tons ttl), was on route from the Far East to Europe when, during severe monsoon conditions, it broke off from the main vessel 'YM Shanghai'. It finally ran aground 90 km south of Mumbai (India).

On 12 August 2008 SMIT Salvage was contracted on a basis Lloyds Open Form to refloat the grounded barge.

Two tugs - 'Matsas Star' (120 ton bollard pull) and 'Seacor Valor' (82 ton bollard pull) - from Dubai (UAE) were mobilized to the casualty location in order to refloat her by pulling.

1900 m Dyneema
Dyneema towing cables of respectively 500 m and 1500 m were mobilized from SMIT Salvage locations Rotterdam and Cape Town. The Dyneema with a total length of  1900 m was transported firstly to Dubai and subsequently loaded onto the 'Seacor Valor'.

With the jointed efforts from SMIT's salvage crew from Rotterdam, Singapore and Cape Town the 'Dina Barge' was successfully refloated during the high tide on 31 August 2008.

For SMIT Salvage a unique achievement being the first time a single Dyneema towing cable of 1900 m was used during a refloating operation.
